Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Molloy — the action it is proposed to take to alleviate the hardship caused by excessive flooding of farmland in the Gort-Ardrahan area of County Galway at present and the findings and recommendations of a January 1992 report in the matter; (2) Deputy Sargent — the testing of ferries which has taken place since the passing of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1992; the level of progress in this area; and the plans to ensure maximum safety on ferries; (3) Deputy Theresa Ahearn — the closure of St. Joseph's College secondary school, Cahir, County Tipperary, leaving 120 students without secondary education from July 1994; and the proposals for the continuation of secondary education for the students involved and for the future employment of the present staff; (4) Deputy Cullen — the additional measures, if any, to be taken to contact all women who received anti-D treatment in view of the response level to date; the medical services on offer to women who test positive to Hepatitis C; and whether significant numbers of women have been affected in respect of any year other than 1977; (5) Deputy Crawford — whether permits were issued for the movement of diseased cattle in a particular case; (6) Deputy Nealon — the disappointment in South County Sligo at the failure to designate the area as disadvantaged under the local development programme under the National Development Plan 1994-99 in view of the fact that many similar areas in nearby counties have been included in the extended programme; (7) Deputy Finucane — the need to provide funding for conversion of a dormitory into classrooms at the Salesian secondary school, Pallaskenry, County Limerick; (8) Deputy Deasy — interference with the RTE 1 and Network 2 Television signals in west Waterford; and the need to address the problem immediately; (9) Deputy Power — The need for medical research into the cause of specific birth dificiencies and for the provision of a national register of birth defects; (10) Deputy McCormack — the reply to Parliamentary Question No. 85 of 24 February 1994, with particular reference to the criteria issued by the Department of Health in relation to patients on waiting lists for orthodontic treatment; (11) Deputy O'Leary — The need for the State to purchase the Waller Estate, including castle and fisheries, at Dromore, Kenmare PO, County Kerry, in order to develop the property for tourism and other job creation purposes in the national interest as this property is for sale again; and (12) Deputy Flanagan — the serious losses incurred by a number of farmers in County Offaly as a result of severe flooding last summer caused by heavy rain and storms.

The matters raised by the following Deputies have been selected for discussion: Nealon; Sargent, Crawford and Theresa Ahearn.
