Vol. 440 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Protection Arrangements.

Ivan Yates

Question:

15 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Justice her views on whether Garda protection arrangements for the Dublin residence of An Taoiseach are adequate.

The provision of protection, whether of premises or persons, is a matter for determination by the Garda authorities. It would be contrary to established practice and to the public interest to comment in detail about the security arrangements in specific cases.

I presume that the Deputy's question arises from a recent burglary at an apartment adjoining the Taoiseach's in Dublin. The position is that the Garda authorities commenced an immediate review of the security arrangements at the Taoiseach's residence following this incident. The review has given rise to a number of issues which are currently being addressed by the Garda.
