Helen Keogh

Question:

49 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Justice the number of attachment of earnings orders that she obtained in respect of people who failed to honour court orders in respect of maintenance payments; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 25 and 49 together.

The total number of maintenance applications processed by the District Court under family law legislation for the legal year ended 31 July 1993 was 2,688. The number of persons summoned in such cases was also 2,688.

As Minister for Justice, I have no function in relation to the institution of proceedings for attachment of earnings orders for failure to comply with court orders in respect of maintenance payments.

The number of applications processed in the District Court for attachment of earnings orders in relation to failure to comply with maintenance orders for the year ended 31 July 1993 was 43. The number of persons summoned was also 43.
