Vol. 440 No. 3

Written Answers. - Residential Property Tax.

Ivor Callely

Question:

101 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the number of houses subject to residential property tax; the revenue generated since its introduction in 1983; and the expected figures for 1994.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that 14,304 householders have paid Residential Property Tax in respect of the most recent valuation date (5 April 1993). As some of these householders have more than one residential property and as some households may have more than one householder it is not possible to give a precise figure for the number of houses subject to the tax.

The yield from Residential Property Tax since its introduction in 1983 is as follows:

Year

Yield £ million

1983

1

1984

1.1

1985

2.1

1986

1987

1989

The expected yield from Residential Property Tax in 1994 is £14 million.
