There are 58 staff in my Department, 36 women and 22 men. This represents a gender balance of approximately 62 per cent women and 38 per cent men.
The percentage of staff in my Department who have a disability is 7 per cent approximately.
My Department was set up by the transfer to it of certain functions, together with the staff engaged on those functions, from other Departments. In these circumstances, my influence on the gender balance and composition of its staff has been limited.
Since assuming office as Minister for Equality and Law Reform, I have appointed five staff, two of whom are women and three of whom are men. One of the five has a disability. I have also recruited one person with a disability through the Civil Service Commission to an extra post in the Department. To date, I have promoted seven women within the Department.
