Vol. 440 No. 6

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Gay Mitchell — the need for mortgage interest supplement to be paid to persons (details supplied) in Dublin 12 in view of the continuing hardship in these cases; (2) Deputy Theresa Ahearn — the exclusion of Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, from the new list of towns for urban renewal status having regard to the high unemployment level in the town and the drain on financial investment from the town to neighbouring towns which have been given urban renewal status; (3) Deputy Matt Brennan — the urgent need for finance to provide a new fire station at Enniscrone, County Sligo; (4) Deputy Michael Noonan (Limerick East) — the imminent sale of SRS, an Aer Lingus subsidiary, and the breach of commitments made to certain members of the workforce which may arise as a result; (5) Deputy Penrose — the refusal by ACC Bank to postpone a request from St. Francis Medical Centre, Mullingar, County Westmeath to postpone the repossession of X-ray equipment until 24 March, in order to allow a substantial number of prearranged appointments for this week to be facilitated; (6) Deputy McManus — the continuing industrial dispute involving Blindcraft workers; and the need for a more flexible position in the interest of settling the dispute and (7) Deputy Bradford — the need to make representations to the United States authorities to correct the anomaly whereby certain Irish citizens (details supplied) who were born in England are ineligible for Morrison visas.

The matters raised by Deputies Bradford, Gay Mitchell, Theresa Ahearn and Matt Brennan have been selected for discussion.
