Vol. 440 No. 6

Written Answers. - Land Purchase Annuities.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

19 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of land purchase annuities presently being collected; and whether he will reintroduce the special offer option for farmers to buy out at halfprice, which was available up to May 1993.

The package of measures, at an estimated cost of £15 million spread over a number of years, was approved by the Government in September 1992 to assist farmers with high land annuity repayments and availed of by over 12,700 farmers. The number of annuitants now in existence is approximately 9,000. It is not the Government's intention to reintroduce the special buyout scheme.
