Vol. 440 No. 8

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Hogan — the need for intervention with An Post to resolve the difficulties which have arisen as a result of changes in the postal delivery system; (2) Deputy Jim Higgins — the proposal to raise the level of corporation tax applicable to mushroom producers from 10 per cent to 40 per cent and the consequent threat to a substantial number of the 5,000 jobs in the industry; (3) Deputy Crawford — the fact that over 50 per cent of the county roads in County Monaghan will not have any repairs carried out this year having regard to the recommendation of the Economic and Social Research Institute that more of the £7.2 billion Structural Funds should be allocated for necessary road improvements to ensure that jobs and industry are protected; (4) Deputy Durkan — the difficulties facing the sexual assault treatment centre in the Rotunda Hospital; and the action, if any, it is intended to take to avert the impending closure of the centre due to lack of resources, with particular reference to its immediate financial needs; (5) Deputy Deenihan — the proposed amalgamation of Moyderwell and Balloonagh Convent secondary schools, County Kerry; (6) Deputy De Rossa — the Government's intentions regarding the taxation of unemployment benefit with effect from next week, in view of the reported statement by the Minister of State at the Department of Social Welfare that the matter is being reviewed; and (7) Deputy Rabbitte — the need for Ireland to declare a unilateral ban on the manufacture, trade and use of anti-personnel mines and to campaign for a worldwide ban in view of the death and suffering of innocent people caused by these devices.

The matters raised by the following have been selected for discussion: Deputies Rabbitte, Jim Higgins, Crawford and Durkan
