73 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications whether he or his Department recently circulated to certain Members of the Oireachtas a document outlining Government policy on community television; if so, the extent of the circulation; the reason therefor; and whether copies of the document will be made available to all Members of the Oireachtas and those of the general public who seek copies thereof.
I recently circulated to certain TDs who had expressed to me an interest in the subject a background note containing elements of policy on the multipoint microwave distribution system for the provision of multi channel TV. I can assure the Deputy that the policy of successive Governments in relation to so called "community television" is unchanged from that which I have stated in this House on many occasions; I would refer the Deputy to my extensive reply to him of 17 February 1994 on this matter.
I am arranging to have a copy of the document sent to the Deputy. If it is clear there is a wider interest among Oireachtas Members in the document my Department will supply copies on request.
