Vol. 440 No. 8

Written Answers. - ACLD Funding.

John Ellis

Question:

84 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education if she will consider funding the ACLD association for children and adults with learning disabilities; and if she will make a statement on the future role she sees for this organisation.

I am aware of the valuable work being carried out by this group in supporting children and adults with learning disabilities.

While fully recognising the important contribution of groups such as ACLD, my intention for the present is to concentrate available resources on the development of school-based strategies to address the needs of the children in question.

It would not be appropriate for me, as Minister for Education, to suggest what future role a voluntary organisation such as ACLD should undertake in pursuit of its objectives.
