Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ballyhaunis (Mayo) Residential Services.

Jim Higgins

Question:

181 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health if he will make money available to the Western Care Association, Pool Road, Castlebar, County Mayo in order to open the recently acquired residential services at Knock Road, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo.

The provision of funding to the Western Care Association is primarily a matter for the Western Health Board.

As the Deputy is aware, additional funding is being made available in 1994 for the development of services for persons with a mental handicap and their families of which £1.018 million has been allocated to the western region.

Proposals concerning the precise services to be put in place, including the provision of additional residential services in Ballyhaunis, have recently been received from the Western Regional Mental Handicap Co-ordinating Committee and are currently being considered by my Department. I expect that a positive decision in this regard will issue very soon.
