Vol. 441 No. 2

Written Answers. - Naval Service.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

16 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Defence if he has satisfied himself with the number of ships available for duty at sea at any given time.

The Naval Service has seven patrol vessels all of which are operational.

These vessels are deployed on fishery protection duties in the most efficient manner having regard to current and predicted fishing patterns.
I am satisfied that the Naval Service provides a suitable level of fishery protection in all the areas for which it is responsible.
