Vol. 441 No. 3

Written Answers - School for Austistic Children.

Seán Haughey

Question:

184 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education if she has received submissions from the Irish society for autistic children requesting that at least one school would be provided that would specialise in teaching children with autism; if she will consider this matter favourably; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I indicated to the House on the 23rd March, 1994 representatives of the Autistic Society recently met officials of my Department and presented material in support of their case for a dedicated educational facility for children with austism.

The case put forward by the Society is currently being examined by my Department and a decision on the matter will be taken when this examination is completed.
