Written Answers - Gender Realignment Surgery.

Question:

105 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Health the number of gender realignment operations paid for by the health boards; and the total cost involved in each of the years 1991 to 1993.

Two persons in the Eastern Health Board area were granted assistance towards hospital services and expenses for gender realignment surgery in 1993 following medical and financial assessment by the board. The total cost to the Eastern Health Board was £16,000.
