Vol. 441 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leave of Absence.

Michael Bell

Question:

22 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction leave of absence with pay to a person (details supplied) in County Louth; and if her attention has been drawn to the fact that this has been recommended by the County Louth Vocational Education Committee.

I am aware that County Louth Vocational Education Committee decided to grant leave of absence with pay to the person in question for two separate periods in 1994, subject to the sanction of my Department. In view of the particular circumstances of this case my Department has given the matter very careful and sympathetic consideration. I am prepared, as an exceptional measure, to sanction leave of absence with pay for the first period proposed by County Louth vocational education committee, namely from 17 January to 28 January 1994, inclusive, subject to the teacher concerned bearing the cost of substitution involved. I am also giving further consideration to the proposal from the vocational education committee for special leave with pay for the second period and I will communicate with the Deputy again shortly.
