Vol. 441 No. 8

Written Answers. - Compensation for Flooding.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

111 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will initiate a survey of the Glenamaddy/Tourlough area of County Galway with a view to limiting the extent of flooding in future years; and if he will provide financial aid to landowners for losses due to flooding in 1994.

No funds are available to me for the purpose of compensation to farmers affected by flooding. Initiating a survey would not be a matter for my Department, but I am asking my colleague the Minister for Finance to consider whether it would be appropriate for him to take up the question of a survey with the Commissioners of Public Works.
