Vol. 441 No. 8

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

150 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education is she will have arrangements made to have education grants payable to third level students lodged to credit unions in view of the numerous requests to have such a facility set up.

Maintenance grants for third level students on higher education grants and vocational education committee scholarships are paid directly to the students "care of" the bursar's office or equivalent of the colleges attended. Maintenance grants for ESF are paid directly to the students in monthly instalments by the authorities of the college attended.

In the context of the revised arrangements for the administration of third level student support which are being planned for implementation in the 1995-96 academic year I will be examining the feasibility of having the student maintenance grant paid directly into an account in a financial institution of the student's choice.
