Vol. 442 No. 5

Written Answers. - State Lands.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

92 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the responsibility that the Office of Public Works has for a patch of ground bordering a private garden of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin, he will ensure that the ground is either well maintained or the property is disposed of to the neighbouring resident who will maintain it.

The garden to which the Deputy refers adjoins State property, the maintenance of which is in the first instance, the responsibility of the Department of the Marine. That Department has now advised the Commissioners of Public Works that part of the property is surplus to requirements. The Commissioners are investigating whether this area is required for any other public service and, if it is not so required, they will have contract documentation prepared and offer it for sale on the open market.

The attention of the Department of the Marine has been drawn to the request that the area being retained by the State should be well maintained.
