Vol. 442 No. 6

Written Answers. - Indonesia Trade Sanctions.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

29 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if he will ask the Irish trade board to cease promoting trade with Indonesia in view of Indonesia's illegal occupation of East Timor and its refusal to comply with UN resolutions; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Tánaiste in replying to the Deputy on 20 April has already explained in some detail why Ireland is not in a position unilaterally to introduce trade sanctions against Indonesia. An Bord Tráchtála have not organised any trade mission to Indonesia in the past two years nor do they plan to do so for the foreseeable future.
