Vol. 442 No. 7

Written Answers. - Grant Assistance for Tuition Fees.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

67 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Education the estimated cost to the Exchequer of providing free tuition fees to all third level students.

When the estimated grant assistance for fees of £51 million in 1994, is taken into account, under the various third level student support schemes, as well as ESF-aided courses, the approximate additional cost to the Exchequer of the abolition of tuition fees at third level would be in the region of £45 million.
