Vol. 442 No. 9

Ceisteanna — Questions Written Answers. - Border Security Costs.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

8 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice the cost in 1993 of Border security and, in particular, the extra security costs attributable to the Northern Ireland situation in so far as her Department is concerned.

The costs associated with Border security are not separately compiled and the allocation of scarce Garda resources to the task of compiling them would not be warranted. It is estimated that the total additional security cost in 1993 arising from the situation in the North, as far as the Votes administered by my Department are concerned, is about £85 million.
