Vol. 443 No. 1

Written Answers. - North Wall Women's Centre.

Tony Gregory

Question:

54 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will increase the allocation for 1994-1995 to the North Wall women's centre from his Departments community development programme, in view of the special needs of the area, and to bring the grant more in line with the other projects within the community development programme.

Projects participating in my Department's community development programme are funded for a three-year period which enables them to plan their activities more effectively. My Department has recently completed a comprehensive review of the funding provided to local projects under the community development programme in the light of the increased allocation for the programme made available to me in the 1994 budget and of the many new application from local communities for inclusion in the programme.

Following this review, as already announced, I have approved a range of funding increases to particular projects in the programme. The North Wall Women's Centre is one of four women's groups being funded under the programme. Following the review I have approved an increased allocation to these four projects, including the North Wall Women's Centre, of £35,000 in 1994, rising to £40,000 in a full year.
