Vol. 443 No. 1

Written Answers. - Oral Surgery Services.

Michael Noonan

Question:

129 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Health if oral surgery facilities for the treatment of persons with cleft palate and other oral disabilities will be put in place in health board areas other than in Dublin, in particular in the Mid-Western Health Board area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is provision under the National Health Strategy for the expansion of hospital oral surgery services to provide adequately for those with cleft palate and other oral disabilities who require specialist treatment.

It is envisaged that a number of consultant posts in oral surgery will be created. The number and location of these posts is being assessed by my Department in consultation with the health boards and the needs of the Mid-Western Health Board area will be given full consideration.
