Vol. 443 No. 3

Written Answers. - Nurse Training Facilities.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

153 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health whether adequate nurse training facilities are available in this country at present; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am fully satisfied that the existing facilities for nurse training more than adequately meet current service needs. The present system of nurse training is widely respected and recognised as being of an extremely high standard. As the Deputy may be aware, An Bord Altranais is in the final stages of a comprehensive review of all aspects of nurse training and education. As indicated in the recently published strategy document Shaping a Healthier Future, it is my intention, following on the completion of the Bord Altranais review, to proceed with a development in nurse education as speedily as possible.
