Vol. 443 No. 3

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

Before proceeding to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 30 from Deputy Rabbitte; I call on the Deputy to state the matter of which he has given me notice.

At the commencement of business today I request leave to move the Adjournment of the Dáil to discuss the urgent need for the Government to clarify the circumstances in which a confidentiality clause was inserted in certain out-of-court settlements of claims by married women for arrears of social welfare payments. This matter arises from the Minister misleading the House.

That remark is uncalled for and was not contained in the motion the Deputy submitted to me.

We have the documentary evidence to prove it.

The purpose is to get the Minister——

Order, Deputy Rabbitte should resume his seat. Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order and, consequently, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

The Minister is saved again.

(Interruptions.)
