Question:86 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Health if he intends to allow community care nurses to prescribe; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Community Care Nurses.
There is no proposal before me to extend to community care nurses the current authority to prescribe certain categories of medicines covered by the Medical Preparations (Prescription and Control of Supply) Regulations 1993 and the Misuse of Drugs Regulations, 1988 which is confined to registered medical practitioners and dentists. Community care nurses are of course free to prescribe and administer other medicines for persons under their care in accordance with their professional judgement.
