Vol. 443 No. 3

Written Answers. - Childhood Immunisation.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

90 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Health the total funding to be provided for the proposed childhood vaccination scheme; if his attention has been drawn to concerns that this funding is not adequate; if he intends to allocate additional funding to enable the scheme to succeed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Report of the Review Group on Primary Childhood Immunisation, which I received last month, reviewed the administration of the present programme of childhood immunisation and recommended measures to improve the present uptake of immunisations. Discussions have already commenced between my Department, the Department of Finance, the health boards and the Irish Medical Organisation about the implementation of the report's recommendations. The cost of implementing these recommendations will become clearer as the discussions develop.
