Question:

115 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance the projected yield of a 5 per cent energy tax in a full year in the categories electricity, piped gas, bottled gas, solid fuels, liquid domestic heating fuels and motor fuels; and the estimated percentage of the total which would be raised in each county and county borough.

Based on the value of sales in the most recent year available in each case, the information requested by the Deputy is as follows: Electricity (ESB), £41 million; Gas (Bord Gáis Éireann), £6 million; Coal (Industrial), £1 million; Coal (Domestic), £4 million; Peat, £1 million; LPG (Industrial), £2 million; LPG (Domestic), £3 million; Heating Oils (gas oil, Kerosene etc.), £14 million; Motor Fuel (Petrol), £38 million; Motor Fuel (Auto-Diesel), £26 million.

Data are not available in a format to enable a calculation of the estimated percentage of the total yields which would be raised in each county and county borough.
