Question:30 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education if she will re-examine the position of Montessori education as part of our educational structure, particularly in view of the proposed reform of early childhood education.

Recognised Montessori teachers are already eligible to teach in special schools dedicated to the needs of children with disabilities, and they provide a valuable educational input in this area.
My Department is currently considering the report of the Special Education Committee including its recommendations in the pre-school area. The question of requirements relating to the qualifications of teachers to be involved in this area will form part of this consideration.
