Vol. 443 No. 4

Written Answers. - Inquiries into Allegations.

Austin Currie

Question:

111 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment whether inquiries into allegations against a financial institution, details of which were supplied to him in a letter dated 12 April 1994, have been completed; and, if so, the action, if any, taken or intended.

The Registrar of Friendly Societies is responsible for the supervision of the financial institution to which the Deputy refers. He is an independent statutory officer appointed by me with powers and duties under various Acts. My functions in this area relate to general policy matters and legislation and not to the day to day matters of the registry. I am informed by the Registrar that the financial institution in question has been and continues to be the subject of close scrutiny by him.
