Vol. 443 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Exemption from Fees Charges.

Noel Ahern

Question:

72 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if she has considered the submission from various schools for free television licence for schools and exemptions from local authority water/service charges; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

In relation to the issue of exempting schools from the payment of a television licence I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 172 of 8 March 1994. The discussions referred to between my Department and the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht are continuing and include consideration of any legislative change that might be necessary in order to provide such exemption for schools. Exemption from local authority water-service charges is a matter for consideration by the relevant local authority.
