Question:

107 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment the position regarding the application of Dundalk Urban District Council for approval to proceed with the proposed south-west drainage scheme, Dundalk, County Louth; the estimated cost of this scheme; if his attention has been drawn to the flooding problems experienced by residents in the Ardee Road and Avenue areas of Dundalk a number of months ago; if he will make a statement on the matter, dealing particularly with the fact that, with expanding industry and the proposed Iarnród Eireann goods facility in the area, urgent action is required.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 106 and 107 together.

As stated in reply to Question No. 86 of 8 March, 1994, my Department has approved Dundalk Urban District Council's proposal to carry out a review of the entire Dundalk drainage system. Requirements in relation to different areas, including the south-west drainage sub-catchment and the Rampart flood relief scheme, will be re-examined in this context.
