Vol. 443 No. 7

Written Answers. - Services for People with Brain Injuries.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

187 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Health if he will establish a review group to examine and prioritise the needs of persons with head injuries as agreed at his meeting with the Headway Ireland group on 25 June 1993; the steps, if any, he intends to take to deal with the needs of those suffering from head injuries in view of the fact that many are under 30 years of age and face many decades of care; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Following the meeting with Headway Ireland to which the Deputy refers, it was decided that rather than establish a group to look specifically at services for people with brain injuries this issue would be examined by the Review Group on Services for People with Physical and Sensory Disabilities. Accordingly, the review group met Headway Ireland earlier this year to discuss the health service needs of people with brain injuries and will take account of these in its final report which is expected within the next few months.
