Vol. 443 No. 7

Written Answers. - Sanitary Conditions in National Schools.

Paul McGrath

Question:

235 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the toilet facilities at Fore national school, County Westmeath, are some distance removed from the main school building; if her attention has been further drawn to the fact that these facilities are inadequate, particularly in inclement weather and it is unsatisfactory that these facilities should be removed from the school; and the proposals, if any, she has to provide funding to remedy this situation.

On foot of a survey carried out by my Department on sanitary conditions in national schools, the authorities of Fore national school were invited to apply for grant-aid for the necessary work to upgrade the toilet facilities in the school. An application has been received and the Office of Public Works has been requested to furnish a report and recommendation on the matter. When this report has been received and considered, my Department will be in touch with the school authorities.
