Vol. 443 No. 7

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme to Dundalk.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

50 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the present position concerning the decentralisation programme to Dundalk, County Louth; if sections of the Revenue Commissioners and the Office of Public Works are to be installed in the new building proposed to be built at Newry Road, Dundalk; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The present position concerning the decentralisation programme to Dundalk is that a total of 85 staff of the Revenue Commissioners have already moved and are in situ in temporary accommodation. The Office of Public Works will not have staff moving to Dundalk; the question of designating a section of another Department to make up the overall target figure for Dundalk of up to 150 staff is at an advanced stage of consideration at present.

The decentralised staff will be located in a new building at Newry Road where a site is available. Following a public advertisement, a number of developers applied to be included on a short list of those specially invited to submit their proposals for the building. This list will shortly be finalised and tenders invited from the developers concerned.
