Vol. 443 No. 7

Written Answers. - Development of Canal Bank.

Tony Gregory

Question:

53 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, the Office of Public Works has for development of the linear strip along the Royal Canal near Spencer Dock Bridge, Dublin 1, and at the rear of the new corporation houses; and if this area could then be provided with safety rails to be used as a play/amenity area by local children.

When the Royal Canal was taken over by the Office of Public Works in 1986, CIE retained ownership of the canal bank at this location. Only the water channel was transferred and the Office of Public Works have therefore no powers in relation to the adjoining lands which CIE retained. Proposals for the future development of this property are therefore a matter which should be addressed to CIE.
