Vol. 443 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cruelty to Animals.

Tony Gregory

Question:

64 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if the Garda authorities will investigate allegations regarding cruelty to animals (details supplied); and the action, if any, they can take on the matter.

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that they investigate all allegations of acts of cruelty to animals, which are prescribed as criminal offences under the Protection of Animals Acts, 1911 and 1965. I am also informed that a Garda investigation has already commenced, regarding alleged cruelty to a pony in the area referred to. This allegation, if substantiated, will be prosecuted under the above mentioned legislation.
