Vol. 443 No. 7

Written Answers. - Galway Main Drainage Scheme.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

96 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment when he will sanction the provision of the main drainage sewerage scheme for Galway city; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Galway main drainage scheme, consisting of a number of projects, including the drainage of the Knocknacarra and Oranmore areas and the construction of a causeway and sewage treatment plant at Mutton Island, is one of the major environmental projects submitted for assistance under the Cohesion Fund. The Knocknacarra and Oranmore projects were recently approved by the European Commission and work is under way on their detailed planning. The application in respect of the proposed causeway and sewage treatment plant is under consideration.
