Vol. 444 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dental Treatment Eligibility.

Richard Bruton

Question:

58 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health the date on which children over the age of 12 become eligible for dental treatment, in view of the considerable anxiety this is causing among members of the public who hope to become eligible.

The Health (Amendment) Act, 1994 enables me, in accordance with the Programme for Government, to extend eligibility for dental services to children under 16 years on a phased basis.

As I announced in the dental health action plan I will shortly make regulations under the Act to extend eligibility to children under 14 years of age.
