Written Answers. - Division of Commonage Land.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

15 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the progress that has been made on the division of commonages; his policy on this issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Michael Creed

Question:

87 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the current position regarding the sub-division of commonage lands.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 15 and 87 together.

The division of commonage lands, where all the shareholders agree to the division, is progressing at a satisfactory rate. The Land Commission will give a report on the progress of any individual case where this is requested by the shareholders or their representatives.

Schemes to divide commonages using the compulsory powers of the Land Commission are still subject to delays pending the resolution of an appeal to the High Court against a scheme to divide a commonage in County Mayo.
