Enda Kenny

Question:

115 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Health when funding will be provided for the establishment of the endoscopy unit at Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, County Mayo, as requested by the Western Health Board some months ago.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 114 and 115 together.

In relation to the development of Mayo General Hospital, the position is that written approval issued on 1 June last to the Western Health Board, authorising the board to complete the planning for Phase 2 of the hospital. I am not in a position to indicate when tenders will be invited for the project. However, it is my intention that once the necessary planning work has been completed the project will be a priority for inclusion in the Public Capital Programme.
The proposals which have been submitted by the Western Health Board regarding the establishment of an Endoscopy Unit at Mayo General Hospital will be considered in the context of the planning for the Phase 2 development at the hospital.
