Vol. 444 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

M. J. Nolan

Question:

85 Mr. Nolan asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of all schemes that have been approved for national lottery funding grants under all headings for each of the years from 1990 to 1994.

Details of national lottery funded allocations and of actual expenditure by individual Departments for the years 1990-1992 inclusive are contained in the relevant Appropriation Accounts copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. The 1994 Revised Estimates volume indicates the outturn for 1993 — details will be provided in the Appropriation Accounts — and the allocations to individual Departments for 1994. In addition, in 1994 the Government has approved national lottery funding of £150,000 towards the costs of the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest and £78,500 as a contribution to the People in Need Telethon. These payments will be administered by the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht and the Minister for Social Welfare respectively.

In relation to lottery funds distributed by my Department, grants amounting to £614,740 were paid in the period 1990-1993 inclusive. Apart from a grant of £250,000 paid to the Irish Institute of European Affairs in Louvain in 1992, all other payments were made to Gaeleagras na Seirbhísí Poiblí. There is provision for payment of £100,000 to Gaeleagras in 1994. The Vote for the Office of Public Works also comes under my responsibility. To end 1993, expenditure was £8.88 million, mainly for conservation works. The 1994 provision for the Office of Public Works is £1.150 million which is for Kilmainham Gaol restoration.
