Vol. 444 No. 8

Suspension of Member.

The Chair will not trample on my rights to ask a question.

How dare you, Deputy, challenge the Chair in such a disdainful fashion?

I am exercising my right to ask a question.

No, the Deputy is out of order in challenging the Chair when he is putting a question to the House. He should resume his seat forthwith.

Will the Chair permit me to ask a legitimate question?

I will consider it later. I am proceeding with the business of the House.

Is the Chair proceeding with the business of the House?

The Deputy will not prevent me from or obstruct me in the performance of my duties.

Will the Chair permit me to ask a legitimate question?

A message will be sent——

Will the Chair permit me to ask a legitimate question?

Deputy Higgins, your conduct is disgraceful.

Why is the Chair proceeding to the business of the House when I want to ask a question?

A message will be sent——

I want to ask a legitimate question and I will ask it.

Deputy Higgins has insulted the Chair and continually attempted to obstruct me in the performance of my duties in dealing with a matter before the House. I ask him for the last time to resume his seat.

I have not.

The Deputy should resume his seat or leave the House.

I want to ask a legitimate question.

The Deputy may not ask a question when I am dealing with the business of the House.

May I ask a legitimate question?

The Deputy may not.

A Cheann Comhairle——

Please leave the House. If the Deputy persists I will have to ask that he be named.

I repeatedly asked the Chair to allow——

I must ask that Deputy Higgins be suspended from the service of the Dáil.

On a point of order——

The Deputy is making a point of order. The Chair has much to answer for.

I move: "That Deputy Higgins be suspended from the service of the Dáil".
