Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Advisers.

Mary Harney

Question:

377 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the number of consultants, special advisers or programme managers retained by his Department since this Government took office; the nature of the work they have undertaken; and the cost of their services. [791/94]

There is one programme manager, a civil servant, working in my Department. Her responsibility is to monitor the implementation of the provisions of the Programme for a Partnership Government 1993-1997, in so far as they apply to the Department.

There is one special projects officer, a civil servant, attached to the Office of the Minister of State in my Department. He has responsibility for projects necessitating linkage with the Department of Finance, other Government Departments and semi-State bodies.

Since the Government took office, my Department has engaged 58 consultants-consultancy firms to advise on issues in relation to electricity, mining, petroleum, land, sea and air transport, telecommunications and the establishment of the Irish Aviation Authority. The total cost of all such services to date is approximately £1.3 million.
