Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Restoration of Northern Bridges.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

120 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will request the British Government to have the former stone bridges at the border crossings over the Blackwater at Creghan and Figanny fully restored as stone bridges. [835/94]

Discussions are taking place with the appropriate Northern Ireland authorities on matters arising from the re-opening of closed Border crossings. These include issues relating to the reconstruction of bridges where this is necessary, including questions concerning the type of materials to be used in individual instances. As these are essentially matters for decision by the relevant technical agencies, I will ensure that the Deputy's views in this regard are brought to the attention of the British authorities, and of the Minister for the Environment, who has particular responsibilities in this area.
