Vol. 445 No. 8

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Carey — the need to review the decision to amalgamate the Clare and Limerick Teacher Centres having regard to the fact that the Ennis office is a valuable unit in its own right; (2) Deputy Keogh — the need for the introduction of a national register of child abuse offenders and extensive background checks on all workers charged with the care of children in residential centres; and if it is intended to extend the powers of the health boards to ensure that they are aware of all appointments being made and that vetting is carried out in each case; (3) Deputy Gregory — the subject matter of priority Question 40 tabled to the Minister for Health on 12 October.

The matters raised are considered to be in order and have been selected for discussion as follows: (1) Deputy Keogh; (2) Deputy Gregory; and (3) Deputy Carey.
