I propose to take Questions Nos. 11 and 158 together.

I regret that data relating to the allocation of remedial teacher posts in the primary school system before 1990 is not readily available within my Department as the appropriate records were not kept or maintained.

The number of remedial teachers currently in place is 1,133. This includes 100 additional remedial teacher posts allocated with effect from September, 1994. The corresponding number in 1990-91 was 867.

The breakdown of remedial teacher posts requested by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement which I propose to circulate with the official report.
