40 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that island children without access to day secondary schools will be given full maintenance grants and assistance towards transport costs; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [457/94]
My Department operates a boarding grant scheme. Under the terms of the scheme grants are paid in respect of eligible students towards the costs involved in attending boarding schools. The grant comprises a payment towards the boarding fee charged to the student together with a payment towards the maintenance costs of the student. There is no provision in the scheme for the payment of transport costs.
