Vol. 445 No. 8

Written Answers. - Blanchardstown (Dublin) Garda Station.

Austin Currie

Question:

89 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Justice when she will make an announcement of her plans for a new Garda station for Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, in view of the commencement of work on the new town centre for Blanchardstown and the inadequacy of accommodation at the Garda Station there; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1233/94]

A number of options including a refurbishment and extension to the existing Garda station or the building of a new Garda station on the existing site at Blanchardstown are under consideration. The Office of Public Works has drawn up a number of preliminary sketch schemes for the project and these are being considered by Garda management. These options are, however, dependent on the acquisition of a number of adjacent properties, which is being pursued at present. If this is found not to be feasible then other options, including the possibility of building a new station in the proposed Blanchardstown town centre will be considered.

Exactly when work will commence is dependent on the acquisition of the properties in question as well as overall priorities and the availability of finance.
