Vol. 445 No. 8

Written Answers. - Deployment of Garda Manpower.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

91 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Justice her views on whether, as part of the peace dividend on security, it will be possible to redeploy significant numbers of Gardaí to districts with high crime rates in Dublin and other urban centres shortly. [1262/94]

The Garda authorities continually review the deployment of Garda manpower and adjust the Garda strengths assigned to particular areas as necessary to take account of changing needs and circumstances. I am informed by the Garda authorities that factors such as the security situation and the level of crime in particular areas have always been and will continue to be taken into account in the deployment of Garda manpower in the interest of ensuring that members are deployed to best advantage.
